Decorating your meditation room

When creating a meditation room, select colors and decor that are soothing, nourishing and calming. Remember you are coming here to close your eyes, so keep it simple and serene. That doesn't mean you can't add a splash of the exotic—such as bright silk pillows. Adding rich ornate touches gives a celestial feeling to the room.

The Meditation Chair

Most people enjoy sitting comfortably when they meditate, so their awareness easily settles inward instead of being drawn to their posture. A meditation chair that has a wide seat is ideal, as it allows you to sit cross legged and also have back support.


According to the ancient system of Vedic Architecture, facing east is best for meditation. East is the direction of the rising sun, which brings the influence of freshness, clarity and enlightenment.

Meditation Shawls

Wrap yourself in pashmina, silk, cashmere, wool or soft cotton and enjoy the sumptuous warmth of a meditation shawl. Many people find that wearing a shawl during meditation supports the awareness going inward. The mind is not distracted by any feeling of a draft or change in body temperature as the metabolism settles down.
